Jamie Lee Curtis Says A ‘Freaky Friday’ Sequel Is ‘Going to Happen’
Jamie Lee Curtis has been teasing the possibility of a Freaky Friday sequel. The project hasn’t been officially greenlit but that may change.
In November, the Oscar winner told People Magazine that she wanted to work with co-star Lindsay Lohan again and that “a lot of good talk [was] going on” regarding a sequel to the 2003 film. “There would be nothing I would love more, honestly, than to be able to work with her again. [To] share our time again, and now be able to share it at this age with both of us 20 years older, or whatever we are,” Curtis said at the time.
The month before, while appearing on The View, Curtis was asked about her comments regarding a sequel. “I’ve already written to Disney, my friends at Disney. I’m in their new Haunted Mansion movie,” Curtis said. She added that she wanted to “be the old grandma who switches places” if a Freaky Friday sequel ever happened.
“So then Lindsay gets to be the sexy grandma, who is still happy with [director] Mark Harmon in all the ways you would be happy with Mark Harmon… And simply, I would like to see Lindsay be the hot grandma. And I would like to see me try to deal with toddlers today,” she said. “I wanna be a helicopter parent in today’s world, as an old lady.”
While attending the Producers Guild Awards Saturday (February 25), Curtis, 64, told Variety, “It’s going to happen. Without saying there’s anything officially happening, I’m looking at you in this moment and saying, ‘Of course it’s going to happen.’ It’s going to happen.”
As recently as this month, Curtis teased the sequel some more. She shared a throwback photo of herself and Lohan, 36, from the early 2000s, writing: “It’s Friday. I’m just sayin! Freaky fingers crossed!” The actress even tagged Disney and Lohan in the post. Lohan gave a hopeful response with a fingers-crossed emoji, a heart eyes emoji and a praising hands emoji.
Curtis told People that she and Lohan have remained in touch since working together on Freaky Friday. “We’ve stayed close throughout her journeys, and she moved out of the country for a while,” Curtis said. “We’ve never not been in contact.”
The Everything Everywhere All At Once actress recently attended the 29th annual Screen Actors Guild awards, where she won Best Supporting Actress for her role as IRS worker Deirdre Beaubeirdre in the film. EEAAO also won best ensemble, Michelle Yeoh won for Best Actress and Ke Huy Quan won for Best Supporting Actor.
