Shakira Will Host TikTok-Inspired Dance Competition Show
NBC and Shakira are teaming up for a dance competition show called Dancing With Myself that’s inspired by viral TikTok dance crazes—like the ones Shakira inspired with the “Girl Like Me” video last year, with the Black Eyed Peas (a video that was inexplicably inspired by anime classic Akira).

The “Hips Don’t Lie” singer shared a video on her TikTok of the announcement yesterday (December 14). “It’s all you love about dance challenges, but now a competition,” she says in the video, adding that she doesn’t want to give too much away.

The basic premise of the show is “what if, instead of dancing for fun on TikTok, people dance for judges on NBC?” It’s all very COVID-friendly, with contestants on the show being “isolated in their own pods” and given “a short time” to learn specific dance routines created by judges like Shakira, then they’ll add their own “unique flair” to the moves and “perform their hearts out in front of a live audience,” Deadline reports.
The series is the latest dance competition series for NBC, which canceled Jennifer Lopez’s World of Dance earlier this year after four seasons. With So You Think You Can Dance not returning to Fox, it leaves a void for a new dance series, which Dancing With Myself will aim to do.
At some point down the line, the studio audience will vote on the best dancer and they’ll win “the cash prize,” which Deadline doesn’t disclose.
