Travis Barker Credits Kourtney Kardashian for Overcoming Fear of Flying
Travis Barker is praising his girlfriend, Kourtney Kardashian, for helping him overcome his fear of flying after his near-fatal plane crash in 2008.
“With you anything is possible🖤 @kourtneykardash,” the Blink-182 drummer captioned a photo of the couple kissing in front of a plane while holding Kourtney in his arms.
“Anything and everything with you 🖤,” Kardashian, 42, replied in the comments. Barker joined Kourtney, mom Kris Jenner, and Corey Gamble for a group vacation to Cabo San Lucas, Mexico.
Sister Khloé added, “Love conquers ALL” and “Im going to cry.”
Per Men’s Health, 45-year-old Barker hasn’t been on a plane since the deadly September 2008 crash that claimed the lives of two pilots, his assistant Chris Baker and security guard Charles “Che” Still. After playing a South Carolina show with his friend and collaborator Adam “DJ AM” Goldstein, Barker boarded a private plane with AM, Baker and Still. During takeoff, the tires blew, and the plane overran the runway, skidding across a highway, hit an embankment, and burst into flames. The two pilots, along with Baker and Still, were killed, while Barker and DJ AM were able to escape through an emergency exit.
Barker was covered in jet fuel and engulfed in flames. He sprinted across the highway on fire. DJ AM eventually helped put it out with the shirt off his own back. Barker suffered third-degree burns to 65 percent of his body, spending three months in the hospital enduring 26 surgeries and multiple skin grafts. Almost a year after the accident, DJ AM died from a drug overdose.
Barker opened up to the magazine in May about dealing with his PTSD and survivor’s guilt. “I was dark,” he said. “I couldn’t walk down the street. If I saw a plane [in the sky], I was determined it was going to crash, and I just didn’t want to see it.”
