Paris Jackson Suffers From PTSD Because Of The Paparazzi
Paris Jackson got candid about her long-term anxiety and trauma caused by being the daughter of Michael Jackson. As one might expect, she has been constantly surrounded by paparazzi ever since she was a child.
Per NBC News, she discussed with her friend and Red Table Talk host Willow Smith on an upcoming episode that she experiences “auditory hallucinations sometimes with camera clicks and severe paranoia and have been going to therapy for a lot of things but that included,” Jackson said. “I’ll hear a trash bag rustling and flinch in panic.”
She added, “I think it’s standard PTSD.”
During the show’s introduction, 20-year-old Smith says she met Jackson on the set of mom Jada Pinkett Smith’s 2009 TV show Hawthorne. Smith and Jackson quickly bonded over growing up with parents in the spotlight, and a shared love of music, modeling, and issues like mental health, sexuality and body image.
One way Jackson says she keeps some privacy is by asking people in her home to sign non-disclosure agreements.
23-year-old Jackson told Smith that there is some tension within her extended family over her sexuality, so she leans on her brothers Prince and Prince Michael II and longtime family friend Omer Bhatti for support.
“They’ve always been super-supportive,” she said to Willow, noting that to better connect with his sister, 24-year-old Prince Jackson joined an LGBTQ+ and allied youth club in high school. “Not a lot of people can say they have siblings that support them like that.”
According to NBC News, in 2020, Paris Jackson and then-boyfriend Gabriel Glenn had a docu-series on Facebook Watch called “Unfiltered,” which provided a glimpse into her private life. Jackson revealed self-harm and suicide attempts in her testimonials and said music was a way to channel her pain. The former couple created acoustic duo The Soundflowers and Paris released her debut solo album Wilted last November. Not to compare her to the late King of Pop, but her album was dubbed as in-between the “twee folksy pop of her previous releases with The Soundflowers and the bewildering alt-rock icon she may become” by NME.
