Tiger Woods Cause Of Crash Revealed By L.A. Sheriff’s Department
L.A. County Sheriff Captain James Powers presented the findings of Tiger Woods’ car crash to be the result of “unsafe speed for road conditions” and the inability to negotiate the curve of the roadway in a live stream today.
Woods was found to be driving between 83-87 MPH in a 45 mph zone at the time of the February 23 crash. Law enforcement told gossip web site TMZ that excessive speed was the sole cause of the crash. Woods waived his right of privacy and authorized the release of the accident report to the public.
Officials said there was no evidence of impairment or distracted driving (from using a cell phone) during the time of the crash. However, Powers said it seems that although there was no evidence of Woods using the brakes throughout the collision, “it is speculated and believed that Tiger Woods inadvertently hit the accelerator instead of the brake pedal, causing that 99% rating on the accelerator pedal.” Additionally, there was a report of Woods using the steering wheel in an attempt to correct collision from the impacts throughout the collision.
As we earlier reported, Los Angeles County Sheriff Alex Villanueva said detectives determined what caused Tiger Woods to crash his SUV last month in Los Angeles but would not release details, citing “unspecified privacy concerns for the golf star.
Villanueva said of the data recorder of Woods’ 2021 Genesis GV80 SUV, known as a black box, “we have all the contents of the black box, we’ve got everything. It’s completed, signed, sealed and delivered. However, we can’t release it without the permission of the people involved in the collision.”
Woods suffered serious injuries in the February 23 crash when he struck a raised median at 7:12 a.m. in Rolling Hills Estates, just outside Los Angeles. The Genesis SUV he was driving crossed through two oncoming lanes and uprooted a tree on a downhill stretch that police said is known for wrecks. Woods is in Florida recovering from his multiple surgeries. Woods suffered multiple open fractures to his lower right leg, and he had a rod placed in his tibia and screws and pins inserted in his foot and ankle during the surgery.
Woods told deputies at the time he did not know how the crash occurred and didn’t remember driving. He was unconscious when a witness first approached the mangled SUV. But a sheriff’s deputy said the athlete later appeared to be in shock but was conscious and able to answer basic questions. There will be no charges filed or citations issued against Woods.
