Matthew McConaughey Considers Running For Governor of Texas
Alright, alright, alright! It looks like Matthew McConaughey might be seriously considering running to become the next Governor of Texas.
This week, the actor hinted around the prospect to run in 2022 saying, “It’s a true consideration,” Yahoo! Entertainment reports.
McConaughey, while promoting his book Greenlights last November on the Late Show, told host Stephen Colbert that he wasn’t considering running. “I have no plans to do that right now. As I said, that would be up to a lot of other people.”
McConaughey continued, “Look, right now, no, I don’t get politics… Politics seems to be a broken business. Politics needs to redefine its purpose. As I move forward in life, yes, am I gonna consider leadership roles where i can be most useful? I’d love to. I’m doing that, regardless. That’s where I sit right now.”
Perhaps McConaughey had a change of heart in political involvement since the recent winter storm that paralyzed the state’s power grid. In response, McConaughey announced plans for a virtual benefit through his Just Keep Livin’ Foundation to help his fellow Texans, Eyewitness News reports.
