Kehlani Says She Took Tory Lanez Off Her Song Due To Loyalty To Megan Thee Stallion
During a recent interview, Kehlani indirectly talked about taking Tory Lanez off of her song “Can I” due to his alleged involvement with Megan Thee Stallion getting shot. “The things that I stand for and the things that I push so hard to hold space for as someone with a large platform. As someone that people look up to as a woman that makes other women feel safe and empowered, people were asking me ‘Are you gonna keep somebody on it who doesn’t necessarily make us feel safe or empowered?'” Kehlani explained.
“As a woman and not only was it that but the situation was involving someone [Megan Thee Stalliion] that I’m extremely close to. So I just felt like on some loyal s— and on some do the right thing you have to be responsible.”
Kehlani also explained that Lanez’ removal from the song was discussed. “It was conversed in private. It was spoken about. It was all thorough. It was business and it was also loyalty to a situation” she said. “It’s not an industry friendship. That’s really my friend. This is someone that I say, ‘I love you’ to.”
Kehlani also took to Twitter regarding her stance on the situation.“I stand with women, believe women, & I love my friends. If that’s something that turns you off from me or makes you no longer support, bless you for real. You have no reason to have ever supported me in the first place…I’m not your cup tea,” she tweeted. “Full transparency cuz I believe in that with my following, his verse is still on the song, the video is solo. New verse on the deluxe.”
