Will 2025 Be the Year Beyoncé Win the Grammys for Album of the Year?
Beyoncé is no stranger to winning a Grammy, after all, she has won more Grammy awards than anyone. With 32 awards, however, the “Texas Hold ‘Em” singer still hasn’t won Album of the Year. Her first country album, Cowboy Carter, is nominated this year, competing with Taylor Swift’s The Tortured Poets Department, Sabrina Carpenter’s Short n’ Sweet, Billie Eilish’s Hit Me Hard and Soft, André 3000’s New Blue Sun, Chappell Roan’s The Rise and Fall of a Midwest Princess, Jacob Collier’s Djesse Vol. 4 and Charli XCX’s BRAT.
Despite several critically and commercially successful albums like Beyoncé (2013) and Lemonade (2016), Queen Bey has yet to win the night’s top honor. Could 2025 be the year she snags this coveted award?
Will Beyoncé’s Cowboy Carter Win 2025 Grammys Album of the Year?
Here are our compelling assumptions on why we think this year will be her turn to win Album of the Year.
Critical Acclaim: Most music critics agree that the album is “impressive” per BBC. Page Six critic Nicholas Hautman called it “The revival that country music so desperately needed” and “A soulful celebration of Southern values and the genre’s African American roots.”
Impact on Country Music: Cowboy Carter shone a spotlight on Black country artists who are not as visible in the genre. Richard Cooper, coordinator of the African and Afro-American Studies at Widener University said the album’s impact also extends beyond music, “[She’s] illuminating the actual complexity of the history, the dress, the style, the line dancing, the aesthetics … in such a way that people can connect to it and line it up with the true history (of country music),” as reported by USA Today.
Record-breaking and chart-topping: Beyoncé’s nominated album broke a lot of records and topped several charts, per Billboard. She’s the first Black woman to reach the No. 1 on the Top Country Albums chart. Cowboy Carter also has “the biggest week for a country album by units earned.”
“If not now, when”: The “Ya Ya” singer has been nominated four times for Album of the Year but lost to Taylor Swift, Adele, Beck and Harry Styles. This year, she’s competing again with Swift. Earlier last year, as reported by BuzzFeed (via Yahoo!Entertainment) her husband Jay-Z seemingly shaded the Grammy Awards when he received his Dr. Dre Global Impact Award during the Grammys (talk about awkward).
He did raise a valid point and said, “I don’t want to embarrass this young lady, but she has more Grammys than everyone and never won Album of the Year. So even by your own metrics, that doesn’t work. Think about that. The most Grammys; never won Album of the Year. It doesn’t work.” The audience seemed uncomfortable so, the record executive lightened the mood by joking, “No, when I get nervous, I tell the truth.”
Whether or not Beyoncé wins Album of the Year, there’s no denying her talent and the award is just a cherry on top. And if this is the year she finally wins, well let’s just say, it’s long overdue.
The 67th Grammy Awards will take place Sunday, Feb. 2, at Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles.
