Where To Get Great Donuts in Fayetteville
Donuts have become a staple in many of our lives. They’re the perfect morning treat and they’re just to eat on a Saturday night.
Hanson Gregory invented the donut’s hole in 1847 while aboard a lime-trading ship. He was just 16 years old at the time. As the story goes, Gregory wasn’t happy with the doughy consistency of the fried cakes served on the ship.
Many early recipes called for the donut to be formed in the shape of a jumble, a circular cookie with a hole in the center. It has also been suggested that this was invented because donuts cook more quickly when they have a hole in the center.
We gathered what we believe are the best donut shops in the Fayetteville area (not including Krispy Kreme, which we also love), complete with reviews.
Duck Donuts
It all began on the sandy beaches of the Outer Banks in Duck, North Carolina. There, Founder Russ DiGilio and his family would enjoy relaxing and fun vacations. But something was missing – there was no place to get that sweet staple of happiness – a warm, fresh donut! So, they decided to create their own, which led to the first Duck Donuts opening in 2007. Now, you can enjoy the taste of the Outer Banks in your backyard by visiting one of our 100+ locations across the country!
The reviews are glowing. “When you walk into the location on Skibo Road, it’s open and cheery.”
“SO yummy! I love a good custom donut and the staff is so friendly. The seasonal fall flavors are fun and festive. There are a million coffee options as well so you can mix and match your coffee with your selected donuts.”
“I wish I had got an assortment rather than being safe with just cinnamon sugar and zebra donuts.”
Superior Bakery
Superior Bakery was founded in 1956 by John S. Poulos. John immigrated from Greece in 1951 and began working as a dishwasher until he saved enough money to purchase a closed bakery on Raeford Road. In 1958, John married Kay Paliouras. Together, they grew the successful business.
Superior Bakery remains in the family and is operated by their son Nicko Poulos. One happy customer wrote, “I haven’t been here in years, but decided to take a friend who was in town visiting to get a fried croissant!”
“You definitely have to try their glazed croissants…..omg talk about literally melting in your mouth.”
“Their staff shines among any I’ve ever seen they’re friendly they’re always there with a free treat.”
