Museum Of Graffiti Selects Atlanta To Host ‘Sneaker Stories’
Two of the hottest trends in modern art are graffiti work and custom-designed sneakers. The Museum of Graffiti, located in Miami, has recognized this and has decided to put them together, via a fascinating pop-up exhibit.
In celebration of these two colorful forces coming together, two cities were selected to be the host sites. First, the show will travel to Atlanta, at the Ponce City Market, from May 31 – June 2.
“A first-of-its-kind contemporary art museum, the Museum of Graffiti exhibits, educates, and celebrates the thousands of graffiti artists who have transformed urban spaces into vibrant masterpieces,” the Museum of Graffiti says in a press release.
Alan Ket, the co-founder of the Museum of Graffiti, also issued the following statement, “Through ‘Sneaker Stories,’ we aim to celebrate the artists from the global graffiti art movement who have transitioned from the streets to appear inside the biggest companies in America, like Nike, Reebok, and Adidas, and influenced countless others along the way,” he said.
What Else To Expect At The Museum Of Graffiti Sneaker Exhibit
The good news for this metro area gets even better as this is a free event to visit. The event hours will be from 10 AM to 8 PM on Fridays and Saturdays, and then from 10 AM to 6 PM on Sunday. The sponsor and event partner Modelo Beer, has arranged for there to be a customization center onsite. This means guests can bring their own sneakers to the event, visit this spot, and customize their own kicks with some graffiti art.
As for special guests who are expected to be in attendance, the Museum of Graffiti says, “The exhibition will feature a selection of limited-edition sneakers displayed alongside their original artworks by artists including Futura, Cey Adams, Eric Haze, Claw Money, and Faust, who have been tapped to create highly coveted footwear that can sell on the secondary market for upwards of $20,000.”
The Museum of Graffiti is a Miami, Florida based organization that just launched only five years ago in 2019. The second city they selected for this “Sneaker Stories” graffiti art mashup is Washington D.C. This second stop will be at Union Market from June 14 to June 16. Both cities will include the Museum of Graffiti’s infamous gift shop where guests can browse and purchase additional items including limited edition collectibles, rare books, and apparel.
