Travis Kelce Lands First Major Acting Role in Horror Series
Travis Kelce lands his first major acting role, and it’s certainly not what we expected for the football star to take on for his first foray into acting.
Travis Kelce Lands His Biggest Role
The Kansas City Chiefs tight end landed a role in American Horror Story creator Ryan Murphy’s new series, titled Grotesquerie. The title in itself sounds like it is going to be a gore-fest and has currently started production, per Deadline.
Grotesquerie star Niecy Nash-Betts confirmed Kelce’s casting on the show in an Instagram video posted on Tuesday (May 7). In the short clip, Kelce says, “Jumping into new territory — with Niecy!” Nash-Betts captioned the clip:” This is what happens when WINNERS link up!!” Although there are no further details about the upcoming show, Nash-Betts, along with Courtney B. Vance and Lesley Manville, are among the announced cast members.
No details have been revealed on what role Kelce will be playing. In February, Murphy dropped a teaser for Grotesquerie on Instagram. The cryptic teaser features Nash-Betts’ voice, sounding very disturbed about a crime scene.
Ryan Murphy And His Horror Series
She says in a recording, “I don’t know when it started. I can’t put my finger on it. But it’s different now. There’s been a shift. It’s like, something’s opening up in the world — a kind of hole to the center of nothingness. What I saw today, they sent shrinks for everyone who worked this crime scene. You think, ‘Well hon, evil has always existed,’ and cite some statistic about how the world’s getting better, less murder, more help, less global horror, never been a better time to be alive, honey.”
As her voice cracks, Nash-Betts says, “Come back. It’s not getting better. And I keep needing to hear your answers, because something’s happening around us, and nobody sees but me.”
Reacting to the chilling teaser, fans went wild for Nash-Betts, who previously worked on Murphy’s controversial, award-winning Dahmer – Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story limited series. One fan commented, “You had me at Neicy Nash.” Another said, “All I needed to see was “Niecy Nash Betts” and I’m HOOKED.” A third summed it up perfectly with, “I would watch Neicy read the damn phone book.”
Kelce’s Emergence Into Superstardom
Kelce, who has been rising in popularity ever since he started dating pop icon Taylor Swift and his three Super Bowl wins, has been cooking up project after project. Not only has he been running his popular New Heights podcast with his older brother, Jason Kelce, but Trav hosted Saturday Night Live in March 2023. Later that year, he made a cameo on SNL.
In April, Kelce, 34, was confirmed as the new host of Are You Smarter Than a Celebrity, which will stream on Amazon Prime Video. The original show, Are You Smarter Than a 5th Grader?, aired on Fox and was hosted by Jeff Foxworthy.
Following the news of his hosting gig, Kelce told The Hollywood Reporter, “I grew up loving game shows, and I’m excited to be following in the footsteps of so many TV icons by hosting my very first one with Are You Smarter Than a Celebrity?” Kelce said.
As we previously reported, Kelce is also producing a documentary titled King Pleasure about artist Jean-Michel Basquiat. His music festival, Kelce Jam, returns for the second year, taking place later this month, featuring performances by Lil Wayne, 2 Chainz, and Diplo in Kansas City.
