Ariana Grande Performs ‘Into You’ At The Met Gala
Ariana Grande attended last night’s Met Gala sleeping beauties theme, paying homage to her Wicked character, Glinda, the Good Witch.
The “we can’t be friends (wait for your love)” singer, who hadn’t attended the Met Gala since 2018, wore Loewe’s bustier dress in mother of pearl, complete with a pleated, multi-layered silk chiffon skirt. Grande told Vogue that the idea for her look was to create an ethereal look inspired by nature and by the way that Mother of Pearl reflects light.
“Pearl is my birthstone,” she told the publication, “so it’s very meaningful to me for that reason—as well as the subtle ways in which I feel like it nods to Glinda’s bubble and to Wicked with its subtle opalescent winks of pink and green.”
Sharing her experience on Instagram, the Grammy-winner said she “had the honor and most special time performing” at the Met in Maison Margiela by John Galliano. The artist changed for her performance in a dreamy sheer green design with a corset and mermaid-like gloves.
Ariana Grande Performs Hits ‘Into You’ and ‘7 Rings’
She sang a medley of hits, including “We Can’t Be Friends” from her latest album, Eternal Sunshine, “7 Rings,” and “Into You.” Of her performance, she said it was “an experience i will cherish forever.”
Her Wicked co-star, Cynthia Erivo, joined her on the Met’s spring carpet and on stage. The pair sang a duet of “When You Believe” by Mariah Carey and Whitney Houston, joined by a group of backup gospel singers. Grande, 30, shared her love for her friend in the caption as well, calling Erivo “divine and magical.” She sweetly added her thanks for joining her in the end and for “lighting up the museum brighter than any star in the sky ever could. it was my honor to have you and to sing with you as always. i love you !”
The pop icon also shared footage of the grand entrance she made for her performance on Instagram and TikTok. With “Once Upon A Dream” playing, Grande was carried in like the sleeping beauty she evoked throughout the night. Dressed in white and her head laying on a luxe pillow, the singer was carried in by four men towards the stage. She begins to “wake,” showing a microphone held in her hand, and the attendees were going wild. As she is hoisted upright, Grande sings “Once Upon A Dream,” in a heavenly tone.
