Taylor Swift’s TTPD Leaked, Swifties Slam Matty Healy, Charlie Puth-Inspired Lyrics
Taylor Swift’s The Tortured Poets Department appears to have leaked online early, sending Swifties into a frenzy on social media. The day before her 11th studio album was set to drop, fans were able to find a Google Drive link containing the entirety of the 17-song album.
As we previously reported, Swift made the announcement of The Tortured Poets Department during February’s Grammy Awards. This is her first new album since 2022’s Midnights.
Exes, Flings, And… Charlie Puth?
The consensus online seems to be the same: all who listened to the leaked tracks absolutely hate it. On X (formerly Twitter), Swift’s summer fling, 1975 frontman Matty Healy, and her close friend, Charlie Puth, are trending Thursday (April 18).
Surprisingly, many fans came to the defense of Matty Healy, though they bashed him when the two were an item. One fan wrote: “Me getting ready to defend matty Healy when ttpd drops.” Another fan pointed out of the Swifties’ notoriously brutal defense towards her exes: “Swifties u can hate matty healy without bringing his addiction up btw.” Wrote another angry fan, “She has no right to mention his addiction let alone put it in an ALBUM after seeing what all her fans said about him and his addiction.. just encouraging it more Rly disappointed Rly peed off.”
Another came for Taylor for even writing a song about Matty: “I honestly thought ttpd was going be in the lines of folklore or evermore storytelling songs just for it to be about that nasty disgusting a–hole Matty Healy like seriously Taylor.” Chimed in another, “taylor swift got cyberbullied out of f—ing matty healy and made her own 1975 album about it.” Back-to-back with the brutal slams, one person said, “Pushing 40 writing about Matty Healy like it’s a forbidden love à la Romeo and Juliet. Girl he is just a nazi.”
Apparently, Charlie Puth is mentioned in the same track: “You smoked then ate seven bars of chocolate we declared Charlie Puth should be a bigger artist.” One fan commented on the line, “imagining Taylor swift and Matty healy being like ‘Charlie Puth is so cool’ is so funny.” Quoting a Real Housewives episode, “It’s wack-a-doodle time,” added one fan. Hilariously one fan suggested, “Thinking how the amount of gaggage it would’ve been if she said Carly Rae instead of charlie puth.”
Then, when it came to Swift’s longtime boyfriend Joe Alwyn, many people came to the actor’s defense. “I feel a bit sick that she didn’t even try to stop this harassment about Joe, when 80% of the album isn’t even about him,” one fan wrote. “She acknowledges that he struggled mentally yet let psycho Swifties threaten him every single day.” Another person said, “if the people who listened to the leaks are right & it turns out Joe Alwyn really didnt do s— aside from being too depressed to marry her, so many of you owe him an apology. solely for the amount of times hes been harassed by fans for the past year over rumors and speculations.”
Apparently, the globe in Taylor Swift’s library has a pin for Orlando, Florida where Joe Alwyn allegedly cheated on her. One fan bluntly stated, “this is so juvenile… girl, maybe YOU are the problem.”
Has Taylor Swift Fallen Off?
Fans far and wide weren’t just disappointed by the subject matter with Healy and Puth. For the album as a whole, many had a lot to criticize of Swift’s artistry — or lack thereof. One person wrote: “flat vocals, uninspired productions and way too many words for absolutely no reason at all. feels more like a 65-minute podcast than an album, tbh.” Another stated: “Same sound from the past 3 years, no artistic growth or clear vision just the same vauge lyrical shlop Amanda from Huchinson Kansas thinks she can relate to. The Mcdonalds of pop music.”
Another said: “She’s really competing against Nicki for worst album of all time………..” Finding no evolution, one fan commented, “I wonder how long she can keep making the same synth pop album over and over before the public starts turning on her cuz this is getting crazy.” One sad Swiftie lamented, “Not a single serve i’m sorry [crying emoji].” Another quoted Lana Del Rey lyrics from her 2019 song “Norman f—ing Rockwell” to slam Taylor’s album using her friend: “your poetry’s bad and you blame the news.” Brutally, another fan said, “just skipped through TTPD and it sounds the same as midnights with lyrics you’d expect from a 14 year old girl not a grown a– woman.”
One person blamed being tricked about Swift, writing: “we’re all being gaslit into believing shes one of the best songwriters of our generation.” Blaming Swift’s wealth and notoriety, one person stated: “She’s not hungry anymore. Pre folklore her hair was frieddd and she was 1 flop away from a katy perry vegas residency. so she went to a cabin and started singing. now she has a billion dollars, a qanon fanbase, and nothing to prove.” A dedicated fan took their time to gather their thoughts before sharing: “So I slept on it for a night, relistened and I have 3 main thoughts: 1. The abuse Joe Alwyn got when his worst crime was being depressed is disgusting and she let it happen
2. She’s too old to write about bad boys
3. It’s not what I expected and I mean that in a bad way.”
Fans came for Swift’s frequent collaborator Jack Antonoff, too. “jack antonoff and taylor two dumb bitches telling each other ‘exaaaactlyyy’ in the studio, that’s the problem,” wrote another fan. Adding to Swift needing a change in team, one person wrote: “I think she needs to work with different producers and team…like she’s stuck in this sound bcz of wanting to keep her friends employed…”
