$2 Million North Carolina Mega Millions Prize Won In Burlington, Jackpot Rising
It seems to be the season of winning for lottery players in the Tar Heel State. Following a string of recent big money tickets purchased here, a North Carolina Mega Millions lottery ticket purchased in Burlington won $2 million in last Friday’s drawing.
Congrats to the #NCLottery player who tried their luck on #MegaMillions and scored a $2 million prize! The $3 Megaplier ticket from Philomena Inc. on South Church St. in #Burlington matched all five white balls to win $1 million, which doubled with the Megaplier! pic.twitter.com/DsZy5Ckjz6

The lucky winner, Brenda Stokes, purchased the ticket at a gas station in Burlington, North Carolina. The ticket went on to match all five white balls during the Mega Millions drawing on April 12. The odds of that happening are 1 in 12.6 million. Normally this would entitle the winner to a one million dollar cash prize, but since the ticket was also a Megaplier ticket, the prize automatically doubled to a staggering two million dollar prize.
“I don’t even know how to feel,” she laughed. “I’m so excited.”
Stokes said she uses family birthdays as her numbers. This ended up being the largest won prize in the entire nation for that night’s drawing. While this was the biggest lottery win in North Carolina last week, it wasn’t the only one. A Cash 5 ticket worth $100,000 was won in Cullowhee, and a Fast Play ticket worth over $85,000 was purchased in Monroe.
As sizable as these wins are, the Mega Millions jackpot remains untouched. The jackpot currently sits at $148 million, with a cash value of $67.8 million. The next drawing takes place Tuesday, April 16 at 11:00 pm.
Stokes is taking home $1,430,001 after mandatory federal and state tax withholdings. Not a bad day at the lottery.

How Much Masters Prize Money Every Golfer Made in 2024
Scottie Scheffler is walking away from the Masters with the biggest winners’ check ever, but how much Masters prize money did everyone make in the tournament this year?
Scheffler’s 11-under four-shot win over Ludvig Aberg gives him $3.6 million of the $20 million prize pool this time around.
Last year, Jon Rahm earned $360,000 less than this year’s winner, as golf starts to contend with the massive prize (and pay) pools in LIV Golf.
Top Masters Prize Money Winners
Both of the top golfers had huge paydays this year. Aberg will take home more than the winners from 2015 and 2016, for example.
Before the 2024 Masters even started, something about “Scottie Scheffler Masters Champion” just felt right.
He’s been the best golfer in the world for a while now, and even though Rahm won it last year, you could make a reasonable case that the 2022 winner Scheffler felt more inevitable.
And so it was all about Scottie Scheffler. The most consistent golfer in the world right now did just that over four rounds at Augusta National.
And that led to a flip of last year’s Butler Cabin Green Jacket ceremony. Last year Scheffler put it on Rahm. This year Rahm had to put it on Scottie.
Now he can safely get home to his pregnant wife, with a second Green Jacket to wrap his new baby in when they get here.
