How He Got That Ken-Ergy
The actor, who stars alongside Emily Blunt in the action-comedy film, The Fall Guy, was in attendance at SXSW in Austin, Texas, on Tuesday. The father of two told People on the red carpet how he got some helpful advice from the lovely ladies in his life. Gosling says his long-term partner Eva Mendes and their daughters Esmeralda Amada, 9, and Amada Lee, 7, came to the dress rehearsal the day before. Sitting front row, Gosling, 43, said it was “great” and “so fun” that his family gave him some tips and some notes.
Noting all the notes he was given were “all great notes,” the proud dad said a huge part of his Barbie performance was due to his girls’ “interest in Barbie and disinterest in Ken,” which fueled his determination to put on a great show. And what a great show it was — Gosling’s performance featured backup dancers and other Kens from the film, as well as rock stars Slash and Wolfgang Van Halen! His song for the Barbie film may have lost to Billie Eilish for Best Original Song, but the audience and the internet loved the performance.
Footage of legendary director Martin Scorsese vibing to the performance was captured by his daughter and TikTok star, Francesca Scorsese. Mendes, 50, saw the highly-circulated video and re-posted it on her since-expired Instagram Stories. She wrote over the video: “I’m living for this major moment of your Dad!!!! How F cool!”
The Fall Guy hits theaters on May 3. Of his action role, Gosling revealed to the publication that he was dropped twelve stories off of a building — and he has a fear of heights! He admitted he would have been “happy to say I did none of my own stunts” but felt it important to do at least a few, noting his character is a stuntman. The film revolves around an explosive sci-fi-Western and Blunt plays the movie-in-a-movie’s director, forced to hire Gosling’s character to oversee its wild stunt sequences. Watch the trailer below:
