Drake Bell To Open Up About Alleged Sexual Abuse
Drake Bell is speaking out for the first time about the sexual abuse he says he experienced as a child star.
In an upcoming Investigation Discovery series titled: Quiet on Set: The Dark Side of Kids TV, Bell, 37, will be speaking about a dialogue coach by the name of Brian Peck. According to Business Insider, Peck worked on Nickelodeon’s All That and The Amanda Show. Before Bell was cast in the starring Nickelodeon series Drake & Josh in 2004, he was a regular cast member on Amanda Bynes’ show from 1999 to 2002.
According to the publication, Peck was arrested in August 2003 on eleven charges related to allegations that he’d sexually abused an unnamed child. The following year in May, Peck pleaded no contest to performing a lewd act with a 14- or 15-year-old and to oral copulation with a minor under 16.
No contest means accepting the conviction but avoiding a factual admission of guilt. He was sentenced to 16 months in prison and ordered to register as a sex offender that October. Until now, Bell remained anonymous as the minor pertaining to that case.
Quiet on Set premieres March 17 and 18. The series examines the “toxic underpinnings of iconic children’s television shows created by Dan Schneider in the ’90s and early 2000s.” Schneider’s shows include the aforementioned Nick shows, along with iCarly, Zoey 101, Kenan & Kel, and Victorious.
Former child actors and crew members who worked on Schneider’s shows previously told the publication that the producer and writer created an “uncomfortable, bizarre environment on set.” Others accused Schneider of writing sexualized scenes and campaigned for young female stars, like Ariana Grande, to wear skimpy outfits.
As we previously reported, Bell plead not guilty in a case involving child endangerment — a felony. Apparently, Bell was in Cleveland in December of 2017 performing a concert, and a 15-year-old girl concertgoer reported to police an inappropriate relationship between herself and the former Nickelodeon star.
Police said Bell and the victim knew each other and had developed a relationship years prior, including inappropriate material sent by Bell to the girl over social media months before the concert.
