Miley Cyrus Plays ‘Doctor’ In New Track With Pharell
Miley Cyrus and Pharrell Williams attend the 56th annual GRAMMY Awards Pre-GRAMMY Gala and Salute to Industry Icons honoring Lucian Grainge at The Beverly Hilton on January 25, 2014 in Beverly Hills, California.
Miley Cyrus is playing “doctor” in her new song with her “big bro” Pharrell Williams in a cheeky little track called “Doctor (Work It Out).” The singer-songwriter, 31, has been teasing the new track this week with the musician and producer, 50, posting a snippet from the music video in a joint Instagram post. With its Friday, March 1 release, Cyrus donned the exact, voluminous ’70s hairstyle hairstyle she wore to the 2024 Grammys. She earned her very first Grammy of her career for the 2023 Endless Summer Vacation hit track, “Flowers.” The song took home the Best Pop Solo Performance and Record of the Year.
Williams produced the track, and in the teaser clip, Cyrus playfully but robotically dances to the beat as she sings, “Let me work it out, let little mama work it out, oh, ooh, ooh. Wanna work it out.” Her dance moves are also similar to her Grammy performance, which is stiff yet concise movements. She then reposted a snippet she had shared earlier this week of her tapping her legs at the beginning of the video and singing, “I could be your doctor, well, I could be your doctor. And I could be your nurse. I think I see the problem, It’s only gon’ get worse. The medicine she gave you, well, that will never work. I need to rock you baby before your body bursts.” The collaboration is their first in a decade since Pharell’s 2014 song “Come Get It Bae,” from his G I R L album.
Cyrus’ many arm tattoos were on full display in the music video, as she sported various glamorous outfits, including a sparkly minidress, a silver, sequin cropped top and shorts and a large blue fluffy jacket. The full version of the video features Cyrus singing and dancing against an array of backdrops, as well as close-ups of her mouth as she sings. One fan commented on one of her Instagram posts, “only miley cyrus can take a song recorded a while back and make it sound so.. current? FRESH? AMAZING?” In fact, the song “Doctor” was originally an unreleased song from Miley’s fourth studio album, 2012’s Bangerz. The song first appeared online in 2017 as a leak. The track was later revamped in 2023 and played as a soundtrack to Pharrell Williams’ Louis Vuitton menswear fall-winter show during Paris Fashion Week in January 2024.

These Pop Songs Turn 15 in 2024
As the final year in the oughts, 2009 gave us a fantastic year in pop music. We had Lady Gaga’s reissue of The Fame, which she called The Fame Monster. The album gave us hits like “Alejandro,” “Bad Romance,” and “Telephone.” Gaga gave something new to the pop scene with her out-of-this-world outfits and music video concepts. She was unapologetically herself, and she set the standard for artists to come looking to break molds. The Black Eyed Peas were also doing their own thing in this era, sticking true to being self-proclaimed “weirdos,” making songs that they knew were dope enough to get radio play that they didn’t have to change their sound to adapt. These artists were well ahead of their time, and the fans ate it all up.
Newcomers to the World of Pop
A newcomer to the scene was Ke$ha, who used to sign her name with the dollar sign while working with Dr. Luke. Following her success of being featured on Flo Rida’s 2008 hit, “Right Round,” Ke$ha’s debut single was “TiK ToK.” At this time, wild child Ke$ha was 18 years old, saying the inspiration behind the song came from coming home half-drunk and stumbling after a night out of partying. The song later appeared on her debut album, Animal, featuring heavily autotuned songs that were a staple during this time period. For teenagers growing up at this time, Ke$ha was perfect for partying and emulating that lifestyle. On the other side, Miley Cyrus was closing out her Hanna Montana chapter. With the film release in 2009, the singer and actress provided one of the most beautiful, inspiring ballads that she has ever recorded thus far. “The Climb” was a pivotal moment in Cyrus’ music career, as her voice was developing and reaching new ranges that it hadn’t before.
