Shannen Doherty Had Brain Surgery After Discovering Husband Cheated
Shannon Doherty and Kurt Iswarienko arrives at The Weinstein Company And Relativity Media's 2011 Golden Globe Awards Party held at The Beverly Hilton hotel on January 16, 2011 in Beverly Hills, California.
Shannen Doherty is sharing two of the most difficult moments of her life, which took place back to back. Speaking on the launch episode of her new podcast, Let’s Be Clear with Shannen Doherty, on Tuesday (December 5), the Charmed alum shared how she went into surgery to remove a brain tumor after learning that her 11-year marriage to her husband Kurt Iswarienko was “essentially over.” The actress, 52, said that she went into surgery early in the morning, shortly after discovering his infidelity.
Doherty discovered the photographer was having an affair for two years. However, that didn’t stop her from going through with the surgery. Iswarienko wanted to go with her, but she felt so betrayed and didn’t want him there. “At the end of the day, I just felt so incredibly unloved by someone I was with for 14 years, by someone I loved with all my heart,” Doherty continued, adding that she was supported through the operation by her mom, brother, and best friends. Weighing on whether or not she wanted to get “a f—ing divorce” while removing the tumor was a lot for the Heathers star to handle. She ultimately announced her divorce from him in April.
Clarity After Cancer Treatment
She has been receiving treatment for cancer over the last eight years. This included surgery and radiation on her brain at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in January. That same month, she and Iswarienko separated, citing the common “irreconcilable differences” in their divorce filing. Doherty went on to share on her debut podcast episode that she became “obsessed” with finding out the truth through conversations. “If you share 14 years together and you cheated, doesn’t that person deserve the absolute truth regardless of how much that hurts them?” she said, adding that she also spoke to his girlfriend of two years that he cheated on her with. Doherty went on to reveal how she couldn’t walk away from her marriage “right away” despite the infidelity. The steroids and post-brain surgery had her in a state of confusion.
