Bebe Rexha Might Not Attend 2023 VMAs, Cites Anxiety
Bebe Rexha attends the 2022 MTV VMAs at Prudential Center on August 28, 2022 in Newark, New Jersey.
Bebe Rexha’s struggle with anxiety might prevent her from attending tonight’s MTV Video Music Awards. The “I’m Good (Blue)” singer shared with her fans on TikTok Monday (September 11) that she is considering skipping the awards show, for which she is nominated in one of the categories. Rexha, 34, noted that though she is “grateful and blessed to be invited,” she’s also feeling distressed. In her TikTok, she says, “I know that the criticism comes with the territory, so I am all good with that. I mean, sometimes it does get to me. I am human. But I wanted just to talk about this because I meet a lot of people, and a lot of times, they’ll be like, ‘Oh my god, I love how you’re all about positivity and confidence.’ Let me tell you, right now, I’m not feeling so confident.”
The performer, who has previously responded to criticism about her appearance, added, “I am so anxious and stressed about going on the red carpet and, I guess, people talking about my weight because I’m not really loving myself right now.” As Bebe noted, she’s “not really feeling like the bad bitch” that she usually channels. “I guess everybody has these days and nobody ever feels perfect,” she continued, “and that’s why I wanted to make this video.”

The “Call On Me” singer is nominated alongside David Guetta for Best Collaboration at this year’s ceremony. She noted in the clip that she doesn’t know whether she’ll be able to make it to Newark, New Jersey’s Prudential Center, but is trying to forge ahead. Despite having a cute outfit and wanting to celebrate her nomination and her friends’ nominations, Bebe added that she feels like anxiety gets the best of her. She concluded her TikTok video by asking fans to share any “motivational tips or tricks” they may have with her.
Bebe Rexha's Hottest TikToks of 2023
With 8.4 million followers on TikTok, singer-songwriter Bebe Rexha shares tons of content with her fans. From behind-the-scenes footage of music videos and awards shows to her glam transformations, the “I’m Good (Blue)” singer has us in awe of her beauty. Standing at 5’5″, the Brooklyn, New York native often highlights body positivity.
Bebe’s Body, Bebe’s Choice
Bebe, whose first name is actually Bleta, has no tolerance for the haters commenting on her body. On June 23, the artist took to social media to tell people she is “so sick” of being called fat. Adding in another tweet, Rexha says, “Human beings go through weight fluctuations it’s life and you don’t know what people are going through. Meds, disease, etc…”
A few days later, she posted a video to Instagram and elaborated further on how these comments on her weight affect her. “Not gonna lie it does suck and bother me when I read some comments but it comes with the territory,” she wrote in the caption. “I’ve been learning not to judge myself and accept myself while also trying to make healthier decisions in my life. What I have learned though is numbers don’t define you, your heart does.” While wearing a glittering bronze ensemble, Rexha spreads her arms out to show her body and ends the short clip by giving two middle fingers as she smiles.
Rexha has been touring with her Best F*n Night Of My Life Tour, promoting her 2023 self-titled album, Bebe. Unfortunately, while performing in New York City earlier this month, a fan threw their phone at the singer, resulting in the singer being taken to the hospital. The concertgoer has since been charged with assault and aggravated harassment. She has since updated fans that she is okay after the assault and has continued on with her tour.
