Selena Gomez Clears Up If ‘Single Soon’ is About The Weeknd
Selena Gomez’s newest song, “Single Soon” has people thinking it’s about her ex, The Weeknd. When Gomez sings “I don’t wanna see a tear, and the weekend’s almost here,” she’s not referring to the 33-year-old Canadian crooner. Another line that had fans thinking the song was about The Weekend was “I don’t wanna see a tear,” which seemed to be a nod to his 2020 smash hit, “Save Your Tears.” The song was also rumored to be about Selena.
Though Gomez and The Weekend, whose real name is Abel Tesfaye, dated for ten months in 2017, the couple have been broken up for almost six years now. Gomez’s new single is about the Only Murders In The Building star happily breaking up with a boyfriend and partying on her own. After Selena and Abel broke up, she got back together with on-and-off boyfriend Justin Bieber for the last time before he married Hailey Baldwin. Gomez has been tied to The Chainsmokers’s Drew Taggart and Zayn Malik, but she posted on social media on several occasions that she is indeed single.
Debunking The Rumors Herself
Following the release of her single, HollywoodLife posted an image of Selena and Abel with the caption: “In case you missed it, #SelenaGomez released her newest song, ‘Single Soon’ earlier this week! Her fans believe that it is about her romance with #TheWeeknd. What do you think?” Gomez replied on the post: “Couldn’t be more false.”
Regardless of who the song’s about, “Single Soon” marks Gomez’s return to music, which she released Friday, August 25 with a music video. Prior to the release, she wrote of the track on Instagram: “Y’all have been asking for new music for a while. Since I’m not quite done with SG3, I wanted to put out a fun little song I wrote a while back that’s perfect for the end of summer.”
