Jennifer Lawrence’s Mom Sold Her Used Toilet on Craigslist
Jennifer Lawrence’s new comedy No Hard Feelings follows a Long Island woman who answers a Craigslist ad placed by a married couple (Matthew Broderick and Laura Benanti) looking for a woman to date their teenage son Percy (Andrew Barth Feldman) to help bring him out of his shell. In a new interview with People, Lawrence, 32, reveals she has her own bizarre Craigslist story.
The award-winning actress says, “Years ago, Lee Eisenberg bought a toilet on Craigslist from my mom. My toilet.” Eisenberg is a writer for the upcoming film. But why was Lawrence’s mother, Karen, selling a toilet on Craigslist? Lawrence says, “I don’t know. I’m like, ‘I broke it.’ My mom sold it for me.” She adds that Eisenberg knew it was her mom at the time he purchased the crapper. “That’s how we know the story now,” she says. “So thanks, Mom.”
Despite this hilarious and bizarre story, Lawrence acknowledged that her parents, Karen and Gary, made sacrifices for her career. In a 2018 interview on 60 Minutes, J-Law said, “My parents, you know, changed their entire lives to support me.” She was raised in Louisville, Kentucky. Her mom ran a day camp while her father was owned a construction company. She had a “complicated” relationship with her parents, as she dropped out of middle school at the age of 14 in order to “forge my own path.” Jennifer never got her GED or a diploma, having no regrets that she was “self-taught.”
Age Gaps
Of her No Hard Feelings co-star, the actress was concerned Feldman, 21, would drive her crazy. “I was very worried that my young co-star was going to annoy me all day, every day. Immediately, I sussed out. I was like, ‘Okay, this is not an annoying person.” The two bonded and became friends while filming, with Lawrence giving him advice about being in the industry. She recalled, “I tried to keep my advice technical, because he is just a nice person that’s just a genuinely kind person. And so I thought it would be annoying to say what everybody always said to me, ‘Don’t change,’ because he’s not going to change. He’s a wonderful, sweet person, but I was like, ‘You need to get a stylist, you need to get a publicist.’”
