Adele Joins James Corden In Tearful Final Carpool Karaoke
James Corden is finishing his Carpool Karaoke series by “rolling in the deep” with Adele. The Late Late Show host finishes his tenure this Thursday (April 27).
Yesterday (April 24), Corden recruited the “Easy on Me” singer to take a second spin with him after their first Carpool Karaoke in 2016. The two Brits’ final musical ride was an emotional one, as both Adele, 34, and Corden, 44, shed tears as they reminisced on their friendship and his eight years as host of the show.
The clip began with Adele giving Corden his rude awakening by showing up at his Los Angeles house and using a pair of cymbals to get him out of bed. Adele was gorgeous with a glam face and trenchcoat on as she took the reigns as the driver. “I’m actually not a brilliant driver, so…” Adele joked. Corden agreed and played along with her, “I’m well aware of this,” he replies. To add more drama to their seemingly dangerous ride, Adele adds, “I also can’t sing without closing my eyes. I can’t believe I just pulled out of your drive and nearly crashed.”

The stars are close friends in real life, and Adele opened up to the host about feeling “a bit nervous” and “obviously very, very sad” that he’ll soon be leaving L.A. for their native England with his wife and three children.
The Unprankable Adele
Corden and Adele then reminisced on some of his best guests, which included Mariah Carey, Stevie Wonder, Adele (of course), Bruno Mars and Lady Gaga. The duo then recalled a time when Corden failed in trying to prank the singer in an unaired segment. The prank was so elaborate, involving an animatronic bear being flown out from Canada. He even had Gayle King record the fake news story to play for Adele.
What tipped the “unprankable” Adele off was that an assistant spied a hidden camera and told the star immediately. To freak Adele even further, she went downstairs to find a room filled with “every piece of merch that has ever been created of me.” After being pushed to her limit, the singer was making her way to leave, and Corden had no choice but to reveal himself.
Reminiscing With Corden
“You’re one of my best friends in the whole world. I’m gonna miss you so much,” Adele said at the end of the clip before breaking into tears. “I’m just not ready to come back [to England], otherwise I would come back with you.” Corden, too, grew emotional toward the end, and assured the Grammy-winning star that their friendship “has nothing to do with distance and time.”
During the car ride, Adele also revealed that the first verse of “I Drink Wine” was inspired by a deep conversation she had with Corden in 2020. She called it “some of the best writing I’ve ever done.” Corden was “floored” by how she took their 6-hour conversation into a song. He added that “the greatest privilege” from their honest conversation would create “I Drink Wine.”
As their ride came to a close, they both broke down in tears, talking about how much they’d miss one another. “You’re on of my best friends in the whole world,” a teary-eyed Adele tells Corden, who lightens the mood by reminding her that they will see each other tomorrow. “This is my last-ever time that I’ll do this, and it’s blown my mind that you’ve done this for me,” he said. “I love you, and we have had the best times here.”
The duo sang the following songs during the segment: “Rolling in the Deep,” “Love Is a Game,” “I Drink Wine,” “Don’t Rain on My Parade,” and “Hometown Glory.” Watch the final Carpool Karaoke below:
