Rita Ora: How Taika Waititi Pulled Her Out Of ‘Really Low’ Time
Rita Ora will go anywhere with Taika Waititi. The English singer recently reflected on her journey in the music industry, revealing how her now-husband helped her through a tough time in her career.
“I spent such a long time fighting to be heard over the course of my experience being in the industry that I guess I lost a lot of confidence and a lot of hope. Fell really low,” Rita told Billboard in an interview this week. “And I guess when you’re at your lowest point, you can make a choice. You either kind of get back up and keep going, or you just let it consume you.”
As Rita put it, “And I did that. I got up. I flew to Australia to do The Voice over there, and I met somebody who changed me forever.” That somebody was none other than the New Zealand actor and director.
Praise Taika
“Meeting Taika, who is my husband, I definitely never felt that before,” the 32-year-old shared, “and so I just wrote it all down and I thought, ‘Okay, I think it’s time to make some music again.’ And here we are.” Rita’s latest single, “Praising You,” is a nod to the Thor: Ragnarok director with lyrics such as, “And who knew love would leave me feelin’ this good? I have to praise you like I should.”
The couple first sparked romance rumors in the spring of 2021, with a source confirming to E! News the following summer that the couple had tied the knot in a private ceremony. Ora eventually confirmed she was married five months later. “You know, here we are,” she said this January. “Everything happens for a reason, people. I am officially off the market.” Rita also shared that their wedding was perfect for them, adding, “We both kind of do our own thing and I’m very happy.”
Rita Ora’s third studio album You & I releases July 14.
