Lizzo Says Her Face and Body Are ‘The Beauty Standard’
Lizzo attends the 65th GRAMMY Awards on February 05, 2023 in Los Angeles, California.
Lizzo is celebrating her face and body after getting hit with some post-shower clarity. The Grammy-winning artist, 34, showed herself some love in a video shared on social media Saturday (April 15). “I just finished showering and doing my little routine, and you know what I realized? I am f—ing gorgeous,” Lizzo says in the clip. She adds, “I am the beauty standard.”
She then blows a raspberry at the camera and adds, “Catch up, bitch!” The Detroit native set the camera down to give her 13.4 million followers a full view as she grabs her breasts. In the clip, the “Truth Hurts” singer wears a gray bathrobe tied low. “I’m sorry that my perfect face & rockin body offends you,” Lizzo wrote in the post’s caption. “I can’t help that I’m God’s favorite.” She cheekily added the puppy dog eyes emoji.
Being in a seemingly playful mood this weekend, the musician posted another video Sunday, taking part in “Poolchella.” She sang, danced and vibed along Labrinth, who performed the first weekend of the music festival.
Lizzo has long been an advocate for self-acceptance and has been known to clap back at the beauty standards that are placed on women and artists. Back in January, she addressed the discourse on bodies on Tiktok. The singer-songwriter gave examples of the comments she received on her posts, like, “‘Oh my gosh, you’re so big. [gags] You need to lose weight, but for your health,’ to ‘Oh my gosh, you’re so little. You need to get a– or titties or something.’ To, ‘Oh my gosh, why did she get all that work done? It’s just too much work.’”
Lizzo called out the “delusion,” saying, “Do you realize that artists are not here to fit into your beauty standards? Artists are here to make art. And this body is art and I’mma do whatever I want with this body. I wish that comments costed y’all money so we could see how much time we are f—ing wasting on the wrong thing. Can we leave that s— back there please?”
