Chris Rock Says Will Smith Has ‘Selective Outrage’ In Netflix Special
Almost a year to the day after the 2022 Oscars, Chris Rock slapped Will Smith back, figuratively. During the comedian’s Netflix special Saturday (March 4) night, Rock took the stage and left the best for last.
Following the 2022 Oscars, where Smith slapped Rock onstage after making a joke about Jada Pinkett Smith’s shaved head, Rock recalled how he felt following the moment. “Y’all know what happened to me. Getting smacked by ‘Suge’ Smith. Everybody knows. Everybody f—ing knows!” Rock joked in the last 10 minutes that he got smacked so hard, he heard “Summertime” ringing in his ears.
The comedian made it clear that he isn’t a victim. “You won’t see me on Oprah or Gayle crying. You will never see it. It’s never gonna happen.” While mock-crying, Rock sobs, “I couldn’t believe it! And I love Men In Black.” Instead, he “took that hit like Pacquiao, mother f—er.” People asked him, ‘S— man, did it hurt?’ ‘Yeah, it motherf—ing hurt!'”
Rock spoke of the “significantly” bigger size difference Smith has on him (Smith is 6’2,” Rock is 5’10”). He then points out how Smith is also much more buff than him, saying that he does most of his movies with his shirt off. Meanwhile, “You’ve never seen me do a movie with my shirt off. If I’m in a movie getting open heart surgery, I got on a sweater.” Comparing other movie roles between the two, Smith played Muhammed Ali while Rock played Pookie in New Jack City. Then, in Pootie Tang, was a piece of corn. “S—, even in animation, this motherf—er’s bigger — I’m a zebra, he’s a shark!”
With the biggest hit of the special, Rock declares: “Will Smith practices selective outrage.” Because “everyone knows” Rock had nothing to do with “that s—. I didn’t have any ‘entanglements,'” he says with his head tilted at the crowd wide-eyed. In Rock’s best explanation of the infamous “entanglement,” he says, “Will’s wife was f—ing her son’s friend!” Normally, Rock wouldn’t talk about such topics, but for some reason, the Smiths “put that s— on the internet.” He was referring to Will’s appearance on Jada’s online show, Red Table Talk.
Saying being cheated on is common, Rock jokes, “None of us have been interviewed by the person that cheated on us on television!” Impersonating what that interview sounds like as Jada, Rock says, “‘Hey, I was sucking somebody else’s d—, how did that make you feel?’ Why the f— would you do that s—? She hurt him way more than he hurt me.”
After the “entanglement” news made its rounds in 2020, Rock repeatedly says how “everybody called that man a bitch!” He named The Talk, The View, Drink Champs, every rapper, and everybody who called Smith a bitch and Jada a predator. “And who’s he hit? Me!” Rock says in bewilderment. “That’s what the f— happened.”
In 2015, Smith starred in a movie called Concussion, which wasn’t nominated for the Oscars. Jada apparently told Rock he shouldn’t host the Oscars because of that. Rock did some jokes about it because that’s “how it is. She starts it, I finish it. That’s what the f— happened. Nobody’s picking on this bitch. She started this s—! Nobody was picking on her.” Selective Outrage took place in Baltimore’s iconic Hippodrome Theatre, Rock got another dig at Jada — she’s from Baltimore.
As we previously reported, Rock said he recently checked out Smith’s latest film to watch him get punished. “The other day, I watched Emancipation just so I could watch him getting whupped. Got me rooting for massa. ‘Hit him again, massa! Hit him again! You missed a spot, massa!”
Taking another dig at Will, Rock said he didn’t hit the King Richard star because he has parents and brains. “You know what my parents taught me?” Rock asks. “Don’t fight in front of white people!” Mic drop.
