Bad Bunny, Charli XCX, Calvin Harris Headline Coachella 2023
Coachella unveiled its 2023 lineup Tuesday (January 10), including big names like Bad Bunny, Blackpink, and Calvin Harris. The annual festival takes place at the Empire Polo Club in Indio, California this April. Rosalía, Gorillaz, Björk, Charli XCX, Burna Boy, Alex G, Kid Laroi, and Glorilla are also on the bill for this year. The festival will take place across two weekends: April 14-16 and 21-23.
Festival co-founder Paul Tollett revealed that Frank Ocean would headline Coachella 2023 after the pandemic forced the cancellation of the 2020 lineup, which the singer was scheduled to headline. When explaining why he broke the news so far in advance, Tollett said, “Right now, it’s the Wild West. I’m just trying to be as fair as I can to artists and to the fans to make sure that eventually they get to see everyone that we talked about.”
Last year’s return to Coachella marked the first time the festival ever took a break between years, due to the postponement and eventual cancellation of the planned 2020 event. The company that owns Coachella, AEG, initiated a string of layoffs, furloughs, reduced hours and salary cuts. Coachella was then rescheduled to April 2021 before being once again canceled in January 2021 due to ongoing coronavirus concerns.
The festival finally returned last April 2022, but faced complications when Kanye West was abruptly taken off the lineup. The Weeknd and Swedish House Mafia ended up as his replacement. West was later sued for $7.1 million by Phantom Labs, which claimed that he owed them money for work on his canceled Coachella performance. Along with The Weeknd and Swedish House Mafia, Coachella 2022 was headlined by Harry Styles and Billie Eilish.
