50 Cent Is Working On An 8 Mile TV Show With Eminem
Good news for fans of the 2002 8 Mile movie: 50 Cent says he is turning the film into a TV series. 50 made the announcement over the weekend in a new interview on Big Boy TV. He said that the semi-autobiographical film about Eminem’s life is “in motion.”
“I’m gonna bring his 8 Mile to television,” 50 revealed on Friday (January 6). He added that Eminem is on board to assist with the show’s production. “It’s gonna be big. I’m working. I ain’t got no duds,” the 47-year-old “I Get Money” rapper said after being asked about the show. “I think it should be there for his legacy because it’s important to me that they understand it.”

According to the Power producer, the project will provide a modern “backstory” to the film and show the Detroit rapper’s younger years in “a lot more detail.” He also expressed a desire for the show to share Eminem’s story with a new audience. The film’s story was last revisited in 2020 when Eminem, who won Best Original Song at the 2003 Academy Awards for “Lose Yourself” from the film’s soundtrack, appeared at the 2020 Academy Awards to perform the anthem. The appearance came after Eminem missed the award ceremony where he took home the win.
Eminem skipped the 2003 ceremony altogether to watch cartoons with his daughter instead. The rapper had earlier said the ceremony “wasn’t his sort of gig.” As a result, Barbra Streisand wound up presenting the golden statuette for “Lose Yourself” to co-writer Luis Resto.
On Instagram, 50 Cent wrote about the television project: “Yeah and you thought i was PLAYING around, Im so serious man ! this is gonna be crazy.”
Last October, Eminem and 50 commemorated the song and additional music from 8 Mile in a re-release of the film’s original soundtrack in honor of its 20th anniversary. “‘I’m still standing here screaming ‘f— the Free World.” #8Mile 20th Anniversary Deluxe Edition of the soundtrack drops on streaming Friday!” he wrote alongside the announcement of the re-release with snippets from the film.

50 Cent executive produces Power since 2014 and BMF since 2021. He revealed elsewhere in the interview that he was going to do Snoop Dogg’s story in a series titled A Moment in Time: Murder Was the Case, but paused on it due to issues with Starz at the time.
