Jennifer Aniston Opens Up About Fertility Struggles And IVF Journey
In a new interview where she’s baring it all (literally), Jennifer Aniston reveals the struggles she faced while trying to have a child past 40. Speaking to Allure for their December cover issue, the Friends alum opened up about going through “really hard s—” in her late 30s and 40s. The star added that if she wasn’t “going through that, I would’ve never become who I was meant to be. That’s why I have such gratitude for all those s—ty things. Otherwise, I would’ve been stuck being this person that was so fearful, so nervous, so unsure of who they were. And now, I don’t f—ing care.”
Explaining what she was referring to, she told the publication that she was trying to get pregnant. “It was a challenging road for me, the baby-making road,” Aniston shared in the candid interview. “All the years and years and years of speculation… It was really hard. I was going through IVF, drinking Chinese teas, you name it. I was throwing everything at it. I would’ve given anything if someone had said to me, ‘Freeze your eggs. Do yourself a favor.’ You just don’t think it. So here I am today. The ship has sailed. I have zero regrets. I actually feel a little relief now because there is no more, ‘Can I? Maybe. Maybe. Maybe.’ I don’t have to think about that anymore.”
Her ex-husband, Justin Theroux, showed his support in the comments with a bumped fist emoji and a heart. The former couple first started dating in 2011, when Aniston was in her early 40s. They were married from 2015 to 2017
The Morning Show star also commented on the rumor that she refused to have children in her past marriage to Brad Pitt. Aniston was married to Brad Pitt from 2000 to 2005 before he famously moved on with Angelina Jolie, the mother of his six children whom he split from in 2016. “I just cared about my career. And God forbid a woman is successful and doesn’t have a child,” Aniston said of the public perception after her divorce from Pitt. “And the reason my husband left me, why we broke up and ended our marriage, was because I wouldn’t give him a kid. It was absolute lies. I don’t have anything to hide at this point.”
Aniston has maintained friendly relationships with both her ex-husbands, publicly reuniting with Theroux last December at the Facts of Life live taping. Theroux served as a producer for the show, which featured Aniston in the role of Blair.
Elsewhere in the interview, Aniston shared a great piece of wisdom for growing older: “I feel the best in who I am today, better than I ever did in my 20s or 30s even, or my mid-40s. We needed to stop saying bad s— to ourselves,” says Aniston, scolding her future self: “You’re going to be 65 one day and think, I looked f—ing great at 53.”
