Trevor Noah Is Exiting ‘The Daily Show’; Also, He’s Dating Dua Lipa
Trevor Noah is leaving The Daily Show after seven years. The comedian took over the program from Jon Stewart in 2015 and announced to an audience at Thursday night’s (September 29) taping of his plans to exit the Comedy Central series.
Noah, 38, said, “I’ve loved hosting this show. It’s been one of my greatest challenges. It’s been one of my greatest joys. I’ve loved trying to figure out how to make people laugh even when the stories are particularly s—-y on the worst days.” It hasn’t been made clear when his actual exact would take place or who would take over for him once he left.
Per Variety, the network said, “We are grateful to Trevor for our amazing partnership over the past seven years. With no timetable for his departure, we’re working together on next steps. As we look ahead, we’re excited for the next chapter in the 25+ year history of The Daily Show as it continues to redefine culture through sharp and hilarious social commentary, helping audiences make sense of the world around them.”
Noah’s plans to depart surface as late-night television programs have begun to shrink. Late-night shows led by Samantha Bee and Conan O’Brien have not been replaced since their departures and Showtime’s Desus & Mero recently stopped production. As we previously reported, James Corden has shared his plans to step down from The Late Late Show next year.
When Noah first took over as host he told the publication in 2020, “I will say the first two years were horrible — and it was horrible because I had taken over one of America’s most beloved institutions. And even though Jon Stewart had passed over the reins to me, it was essentially a year of people telling me I shouldn’t be doing the job and I was unworthy of being in that seat. And I continued to believe that. You step into this new role and you’re doing a new job and most of the first year was just trying to stay afloat, just trying not to get canceled and trying to find my footing. And the analogy I use is trying to learn how to fly a plane while the plane is flying. That’s what it felt like every single day.”
Following news of his departure, Noah was photographed kissing Dua Lipa in New York City after having dinner together. Per The Daily Mail, a source said, “They were quietly sat away from everyone else at restaurant. It was clear they were into each other and sat close together throughout the meal. They left together and walked, stopping for long embraces and on the second kiss with hugs.”

As we previously reported, Dua, 27, and Anwar Hadid (Bella and Gigi Hadid’s younger brother) broke up last December after two years of dating. Meanwhile, Trevor and Minka Kelly announced their split in May (also after two years of dating), but a source at the time told Us Weekly that they “have been broken up for a while” and that “there is no ill will and everything is amicable between them.”
Trevor is extremely private about his personal life, but spoke about his flirting style as, “When I meet a woman, I’m still the kid in high school—I’m still like, ‘Hi, my name is Trevor.’ Never open with a joke. It is the most horrible thing. Jokes require context. Without context, you’re just some random person who came and told someone they fell from [heaven] or some randomness, and if you mess it up, you look worse and it seems like an insult. No humor! Just say hello. That’s it!”
