Tom Holland and Dwayne Johnson Want To Be The Next James Bond
Some of the biggest names in Hollywood have set their sights on taking over the James Bond franchise, following Daniel Craig’s final performance in No Time To Die.
During a recent interview with GQ, Jacob Batalon, who plays Peter Parker’s faithful friend Ned in the Spider-Man films, revealed that co-star Tom Holland really wants to take on the role of Bond.
Batalon noted that the British actor “talks about being James Bond a lot,” reiterating the fact with “a lot a lot.” Recently, Holland noted that the end of the Spider-Man trilogy would be “the end of a franchise.” Adding, “I think if we were lucky enough to dive into these characters again, you’d be seeing a very different version… It would no longer be the Homecoming trilogy.” With the release of Spider-Man: No Way Home, Tom Holland’s contract with Marvel Studios will come to an official end.
Holland, 25, said of No Way Home, “It’s the best work we’ve ever done. It’s the best Spider-Man film that we’ve ever made. I really don’t think fans are at all ready for what they’ve put together. I know that I’m not ready, and I know that it’s going to be brutal.”
Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson has also set his eyes on the role of 007, telling Esquire in an interview that he “would like to follow in his (Craig’s) footsteps and be the next Bond.” He added that he has no desire to play one of the iconic villains in the franchise. “You gotta be Bond,” he says.
Several men have portrayed the British icon, including Sean Connery, Pierce Brosnan and Craig. Craig, who has had the role since 2006, wrapped up his final appearance with the film No Time to Die,” which was released last month. While there has been plenty of speculation and fan casting, nothing is set in stone for who will take over, but when asked if a woman should play the next Bond, Craig said that would be a disservice to female actors.
“There should simply be better parts for women and actors of color,” Craig said. “Why should a woman play James Bond when there should be a part just as good as James Bond, but for a woman?”
Longtime James Bond film producer Barbara Broccoli said it first last year, “James Bond can be of any color, but he is male,” adding, “I believe we should be creating new characters for women — strong female characters… I’m not particularly interested in taking a male character and having a woman play it. I think women are far more interesting than that.”
