Lance Bass is Related to Britney Spears, Ancestry Test Reveals
Turns out two major pop stars of the late ’90s don’t just share musical success, but also DNA: Lance Bass and Britney Spears are related!
Bass appeared in a recent episode of Ancestry.com’s “2 Lies & A Leaf” with his husband, Michael Turchin. At the end of the episode, the two were asked to answer: “Which unexpected distant relative is part of Lance’s musical family tree? A) Faith Hill, B) Britney Spears or C) Elvis Presley.” When announcing Britney’s name, Lance and Michael both gasped and said, “I wish.”
“Wait, so that means I’m related to one of these?!” Lance, 42, excitedly asks the host. “I really hope it’s Britney, but there’s no way.” While Lance wrote in Elvis as his answer, his husband wrote in Britney’s name, which Bass said, “It’s too good to be true.”
When it was revealed that Bass is actually a relative of the “Oops!… I Did It Again” songstress, he gasped, “Are you kidding me? I don’t even care about losing because this is amazing!” he told his husband.
Ancestry confirmed that Bass and Spears are sixth cousins, once removed. “I wanted to be related to the Queen, well now I’m related to the Queen of Pop,” Bass said of Spears, who he says he always saw as a “little sister and this whole time she’s been my little cousin. And it makes sense because we were born an hour from each other.”
Both musicians were born in Mississippi — Bass being from Laurel and Spears was born in the small town of McComb, raised in Kentwood, Louisiana.
“This is so cool! For some reason, I’ve always felt we looked like family, even when we were kids,” Bass said. “I mean, this means to much to me!” He shared that Spears “is like family” to him and finds it amazing that they really are blood relatives.
