Debra Messing Asks How Kim Kardashian is Chosen to Host SNL
Saturday Night Live has announced the first hosts for its 47th season, with Kim Kardashian being one of them — but that doesn’t sit well with actress Debra Messing.
The reality TV star is set to host the second episode of the season, with musical guest Halsey (who has hosted back in 2019). Upon learning the news of Kim hosting, Messing tweeted her confusion, admitting that she understands that Kardashian is a cultural icon, but that most hosts are usually brought in to promote an upcoming project.
“Why Kim Kardashian? I mean, I know she is a cultural icon, but SNL has hosts, generally, who are performers who are there to promote a film, TV show, or album launch,” Messing wrote. “Am I missing something?”

Per Yahoo!, though Keeping Up With The Kardashians is over, Kim and her family announced earlier this year that they had signed a multiyear deal to create new content that will stream exclusively on Hulu. No official premiere date was given, but the new series was expected to hit the streaming service in “late 2021,” so it’s entirely possible that Kardashian’s SNL appearance will be tied to that.
There was quite a split on Messing’s tweet, between fans defending Kim’s right to host and those opposing it.
One person replied to Messing, ” HAHAHAHAHA !!!! I had the same exact question as soon as I saw that and I still have no answer. I’m sure Kanye will be involved somehow. I’m not sure I want to waste my time with that episode,” they said. “And might I point out, the hosts usually have some kind of talent. Other than being famous for being famous.”

One Kardashian fan wrote that Kim “just wrapped up what is likely the most successful & longest-running reality television show in history & is launching a new series on Hulu. That and her ‘side gigs’ Skims & KKW Beauty made her a billionaire. She is SNL worthy.”
“Being rich and selling herself is not the same as having the talents to carry a sketch comedy show,” retorted one person.

I don't see it. Kim is a sweety, but she's not a talent. She can't sing, dance, act and frankly it's a no for me. Put her on a fashion judging panel and I'm in, but not this.
