Chrissy Teigen Quit Drinking: It ‘No Longer Serves Me’
Chrissy Teigen has reached a major sobriety milesone, celebrating 50 days sober from alcohol over the weekend.
The model and television personality marked the event with an Instagram video laying down with her two children Luna and Miles.
“today is my 50 day sobriety streak! it should be nearly a year but I had a few (wine) hiccups in the road,” Teigen wrote. “this is my longest streak yet! I still dunno if I’ll never drink again but I do know it no longer serves me in ANY way. I don’t get more fun, I don’t dance, I don’t get relaxed. I get sick, fall asleep and wake up sick, having missed what was probably a fun night. I had my fun with it and appreciate anyone that can enjoy it responsibly!!!! this is also my third day this week working out which is unheard of for me, and my bears are notttt making it easy but loving @movewithnicole on YouTube!!”
Teigen revealed in December that she decided to quit drinking after receiving a book from a friend all about giving up alcohol in a culture that’s obsessed with it socially. She reflected on her time living in New York City, regretting her self-proclaimed “functioning alcoholic” days.
Teigen, 35, said, “I’d sit there with my multiple double vodka sodas and get day drunk by myself (this is not a brag lol I was basically a functioning alcoholic) then buy hats I didn’t like or need at urban outfitters.”
“I don’t really feel like I fully processed jack and now that I don’t have the alcohol to numb it away, things are just…there, waiting to be acknowledged,” Teigen continued. “I guess what I’m saying here is life is so f—ing complicated.”
Since announcing her decision to cut out booze, the Cravings author has documented her highs and lows on her journey on social media, like the “trippy” feeling of her first sober Italian getaway and the reality of not being able to “numb” feelings with alcohol after her recent pregnancy loss.
Teigen previously abstained from alcohol in 2017 and opened up to Cosmopolitan about her decision to get sober.
“I was, point blank, just drinking too much,” the former Lip Sync Battle host revealed. “I got used to being in hair and makeup and having a glass of wine. Then that glass of wine would carry over into me having one before the awards show. And then a bunch at the awards show. And then I felt bad for making kind of an a– of myself to people that I really respected. And that feeling, there’s just nothing like that. You feel horrible. It’s not a good look for me, for John, for anybody.”
