Rose McGowan Calls Out Oprah For Being ‘As Fake As They Come’
Rose McGowan slammed Oprah Winfrey on social media this week, claiming the talk show queen is “as fake as they come” for her association with Harvey Weinstein.
The Charmed star wrote about how she’s happy people are “seeing the ugly truth” about the billionaire media personality regarding her former friendship with the convicted rapist. McGowan, 47, further referenced how Winfrey was linked to record executive/producer Russell Simmons who is fighting multiple allegations of rape and sexual misconduct.
“She is about supporting a sick power structure for personal gain, she is as fake as they come,” the activist wrote of Winfrey “destroying” Simmons’ victims.
Per Fox News, Winfrey, 67, stepped down as executive producer from Simmons’ #MeToo documentary in 2020 because she felt “there is more work to be done on the film to illuminate the full scope of what the victims endured, and it has become clear that the filmmakers and I are not aligned in that creative vision.”
Winfrey said in a statement to The Hollywood Reporter at the time, “I want it to be known that I unequivocally believe and support the women. Their stories deserve to be told and heard.”
McGowan’s August 29 tweet reads, “I am glad more are seeing the ugly truth of @Oprah. I wish she were real, but she isn’t. From being pals with Weinstein to abandoning & destroying Russell Simmon’s victims, she is about supporting a sick power structure for personal gain, she is as fake as they come. #lizard.” She accompanied the tweet with a photo of Oprah kissing Weinstein on the cheek; the comments included more photos of Oprah smiling merrily next to Weinstein.
