Britney Spears’ Brother-In-Law Jamie Watson Defends Her Family
Britney Spears’ brother-in-law Jamie Watson, husband of younger sister Jamie Lynn Spears, is playing both sides of the fence — defending the Spears’ family while simultaneously showing support for Britney after her conservatorship hearing.
Watson told Page Six on Friday (June 25), “I can assure you her family loves her and wants the best for her. I wouldn’t be around people who weren’t. Who wouldn’t want to be in support of Britney?”
Jamie Lynn Spears hasn’t publicly spoken about her sister’s statement on last week’s conservatorship hearing, but responded to someone wanting her to comment on Britney’s mental health. The Zoey 101 star shared a screenshot of a statement from Halsey, which called for “sympathy” towards those who struggle with mental health issues, especially bipolar disorder. Per E! News, she captioned the post, “If you deal with mental illness or care for someone dealing with mental illness, then you know how important it is to respect the situation with privacy for the person, and the family trying to protect their loved ones, no matter how it may appear to the public, and as the public we must learn to do the same.”
“You have no right to assume anything about my sister, and I have NO right to speak about HER health and personal matters,” Jamie Lynn added. “She is a strong, bada–, unstoppable woman, and that’s the only thing that is OBVIOUS.”
Meanwhile, an attorney for 66-year-old mom Lynne Spears, said she is a “very concerned mother” after hearing the “Work” singer speak to the court. The attorney, who was present during the hearing, also encouraged the judge to listen to Britney’s request to hire her own private lawyer and to change her care plan.
“I first want to say that was very courageous of Ms. Spears,” Lynne’s attorney said during the court proceedings. “One thing I want to raise with the court… is when she was there in May 2019 that she didn’t feel like she was heard. I feel we need to make sure today that she was heard.”
As we previously reported, father Jamie Spears’ attorney relayed the message to the conservatorship hearing that he is “sorry to see his daughter suffering and in so much pain.”
Britney said she “wants to be able to get married and have a baby,” and that she has an IUD implanted that she wants to be removed. She alleged that she hasn’t been allowed to make those decisions on her own.
“I’ve lied and told the whole world I’m OK and I’m happy… I’m not OK, I’m not happy, I can’t sleep,” she said. “I’m so angry, it’s insane. And I’m depressed. My dad and anyone involved in this conservatorship, including my management… they should be in jail.”
“It’s not okay to force me to do anything I don’t want to,” Spears said. “The conservatorship should end. I truly believe this conservatorship is abusive.”
Spears doesn’t want to be evaluated to determine if she has regained her mental capacity. “I just want my life back,” the singer said. “All I want is to own my money and for my boyfriend to be able to drive me in his car. I want to sue my family.”
