Mariah Carey’s Explosive Meeting With Jay-Z Ends Roc Nation Deal
Mariah Carey has reportedly parted ways with Jay-Z’s management company, Roc Nation, during a meeting about her career. Allegedly, the meeting ended in a blowout that terminated their deal.
According to The Sun, a source said that Carey and Jay’s meeting was an “explosive” one, prompting her to leave the company indefinitely. Carey signed with Roc Nation in 2017 after firing her former manager Stella Bulochnikov.
The source told the outlet, “Mariah and Jay had an explosive meeting which did not go well at all. She has made it clear she wants nothing more to do with him and has called it quits with Roc Nation.” They continued, “She will formally depart in the next few weeks. It is a shame because they had done some great work in the last few years. But this meeting couldn’t have gone much worse. Mariah has been talking to other managers and thinks she has found someone who she feels has full belief in her as she takes her next steps. There is a heavily R&B- influenced album being finalized at the moment and she is planning a world tour for next year, so she isn’t letting this stand in her way.”
On Roc Nation’s website, the Grammy-award winning singer has already been removed from the list of high-profile artists represented by the company. Others include Alicia Keys, Christina Aguilera, Kelly Rowland, Rihanna, Normani, Megan Thee Stallion, Tinashe and Willow Smith.
However, a contradicting account by a source close to the Mirror UK said, “Mariah’s relationship with Roc Nation ended courteously and she and Jay-Z are on great terms. Mariah is currently represented at Range where her former Roc Nation manager is a Managing Partner.”
Mariah and Jay-Z have collaborated over the years on songs including her 1999 hit “Heartbreaker” and his 2000 song “Things That U Do.”
