Cher Announces Biopic As She Turns 75
Cher took to social media on the eve of her 75th birthday to announce that she is going to have her life story told through film, mentioning some heavy hitters in the industry.

One Twitter user asked the “Believe” singer, “I have been waiting for this since I was 15! It only took 50 years! When will it be done?” Cher answered in “Cher” fashion, simply answering, “I Had More life to Live.”

According to Deadline, the untitled film will be scripted by Oscar-winning screenwriter Eric Roth, who worked on the highly-anticipated Killers of the Flower Moon with director Martin Scorsese, starring Leonardo DiCaprio, Robert De Niro, and Jesse Plemons.
The Cher biopic will be produced by Mamma Mia!‘s Judy Craymer and Gary Goetzman. That duo will produce with Cher, who starred in the Mamma Mia! sequel. Cher just produced Kaavan, The World’s Loneliest Elephant.
The film will showcase Cher’s evolution from being a shy duo partner in Sonny & Cher to a pioneer for female entertainers in song and fashion, unafraid to speak her mind. Her professional rise began when she moved to Los Angeles at 16 and befriended Sonny Bono. She soon was singing backup on hits “Be My Baby” and “You’ve Lost That Lovin’ Feelin.” Her feelings for Bono quickly turned romantic, and they married and began working together.
“I Got You Babe” made the duo massive stars in the ’60s, and by the early ’70s they became CBS primetime stars on The Sonny & Cher Comedy Hour, and her affinity for wearing daring outfits started her rise as a fashion icon. The couple divorced in 1975, and Cher pursued a solo career, flourishing with hits “Gypsys, Tramps & Thieves” and “Half-Breed.” By the ’80s, Cher redefined herself as an actress, starring in The Witches of Eastwick and 1987’s Moonstruck. She followed that up with more hits, including “I Found Someone,” “If I Could Turn Back Time” and “Believe.” Cher has sold more than 100 million records and has been a longtime advocate for LGBTQ rights and HIV/AIDS awareness and prevention, among other causes.
Exact details of the film are being kept under wraps, but Deadline theorizes it will not be a musical similar to Mamma Mia!. Rather, it will be similar in style to Bohemian Rhapsody.
Craymer shared his enthusiasm with working with Cher once more saying, “Gary and I are thrilled to be working with Cher again and this time bringing her empowering and true life odyssey to the big screen.
