Quavo And Saweetie Avoid Criminal Charges In Elevator Altercation
Neither Quavo nor Saweetie will face any criminal charges for their elevator fight that was being investigated last month, gossip web site TMZ reports.
Law enforcement told the gossip site that the case was referred to the L.A. City Attorney’s Office, which declined to file charges. Based on the evidence, which included a surveillance video of the then-couple in a physical confrontation, there was “no likelihood of a conviction for either party.”
As we earlier reported, the video showed the former couple fighting over a video game console box. Police wanted to meet with both parties separately to discuss the events that took place before and after the elevator, but that never happened.
The video, which was recorded last year, opens with Saweetie seemingly taking a swing at Quavo outside of the open elevator doors. They continued to struggle over the orange gaming case, and then Quavo grabs Saweetie by the arm and drags her into the elevator, swinging her around causing her to hit the wall and both collapse on the ground. Quavo gets up, but Saweetie stays sitting on the floor through the rest of their elevator ride. There’s a moment where Quavo looks up at the security camera in the elevator. When it comes to a stop, a man is seen waiting to get on the elevator but doesn’t go inside — most likely seeing there is something going on. Finally, when they get to their stop, Quavo sets down the Call of Duty game case to keep the door held open until Saweetie gets up and limps out.
The exes were clearly looking to put the situation behind them — at least publicly — and it didn’t seem like either was holding a grudge over the fight. Quavo told the gossip site, “We had an unfortunate situation almost a year ago that we both learned and moved on from. I haven’t physically abused Saweetie and have real gratitude for what we did share overall.” Saweetie also said something to the same effect, while also indicating this was far from the last straw in their relationship, noting there were other “hurdles” before they split.
