Rami Malek Talks To Rachel Bilson After Instagram Throwback Photo
Rachel Bilson said yesterday that Rami Malek has reconnected with her weeks after a story circulated where she mentioned that he asked her to take down a throwback photo she posted on Instagram of the two of them as teenagers, Fox News reports.
Bilson said, “Rami and I actually have talked since that came out. He connected with me, and we’re all good. He was so sweet and we’re totally fine now and we talked about it and we’re good.”
She called Malek “gracious,” adding she “totally understood where he was coming from and he understood me. And I was just so happy we were able to squash it and, like, move on.”
Last month, Bilson revealed that when Malek won an Oscar in 2019 for Best Actor as Freddie Mercury in Bohemian Rhapsody, she decided to post a “dorky” photo that night from when the actors were on a school trip to New York.
The photo showed Malek pointing to the camera wearing a black sweater, white T-shirt and gold chain while being hugged by a curly-haired and grinning Bilson. Captioned,”Hey @ramimalek where’d you get that gold chain? #tbt #oscarworthy #dontforgetthelittlepeople.”
A week after she posted the photo, she received a direct message from Malek. She recounts, “It wasn’t like, ‘Hey! How are you?’ It was straight to: ‘I would really appreciate if you take that down. I’m a really private person.’”
The O.C. star said, “I had posted a throwback of us from our senior trip to New York, Broadway. We’re super nerdy… just the dorkiest picture of the both of us. But I throw it up, ’cause it’s funny and I think it’s so important to be able to make fun of yourself.” Bilson added that Malek’s stylist, who is also friends with her said “it’s not a great picture of him.”
Per Fox, the 39-year-old actress said she was “mortified” after a friend sent her a link to a CNN story about the off-the-cuff remark she made and had a “panic attack” over the reports, some of which seemed to imply Malek had been rude to her when he “made” her remove it.
She said that she meant it as a “casual,” “funny” story, but afterward had a feeling it might blow up and be misinterpreted. Bilson said in the end it was a good thing, because they were able to reconnect and “make it better and everything’s great.”
