The Ed Sheeran Hiatus Is Over, And He’s Returned To Music
The hiatus is over! After taking a break since August of 2019, Ed Sheeran has surprised fans by announcing new music.
He teased new music on Instagram yesterday, and said, “A Christmas present.”

The news of Ed returning is somewhat a surprise, but some fans saw it coming. Per The Things, fans began posting theories about when Ed would return to music.
One fan wrote, “Okay so here are my thoughts about subtract and Ed coming back. One big question is whether Ed’s 18-month break started at the end of the divide tour or when he posted the note. If it’s August 2019, it’s very plausible that Ed’ll be back on Christmas Eve, ’cause we all know that’s when he posted his note last year.”
Ed then responded to that fan and wrote, “All very valid questions, but you’ll know at least one answer soon x.” Later, “Ed Sheeran is coming” began trending on Twitter.
Now that the new song is out, Ed talked about it on Instagram. He said, “Hey guys. Afterglow is a song I wrote last year that I wanted to release for you. It’s not the first single from the next album, it’s just a song I love, and hope you love too. Enjoy ! Have a safe and happy festive break and New Year’s. Back to dad land for me now, ciao x.”
