Verzuz Announces Next Battle: Brandy v. Monica
Over the weekend, Verzuz announced its next official battle, which is between Brandy and Monica. “Get ready for the queens! [Brandy] and [Monica] on #VERZUZ!” the announcement that was made on Instagram read. “Monday, August 31st, 8 PM EST on our IG and Apple Music. Drinks by Ciroc”
“This will be historical …. It’s an honor,” Monica said of the forthcoming event. Brandy also referred to the event as “history,” while Monica asked fans what tracks would they like to hear during the event that will be streaming on both Instagram Live and Apple Music.
“What songs would you all like to see us bring to @verzuztv !!” the “Don’t Take It Personal” singer asked. “Celebrating these catalogs is for the culture with love! From Young Women to Adult Women we’ve been with y’all! Name the songs you love.”
Back in May, both Brandy and Monica spoke out regarding whether or not they would be up for a Verzuz battle against each other. Brandy spoke with Essence via Facebook Live regarding the matter while Monica spoke with a local radio station in Atlanta.

Brandy played coy when the publication mentioned that her name has been brought up a lot regarding the “Versus” series.“Really?” Brandy asked before softly laughing. “You have hits on top of hits on top of hits,” the interviewer said before asking Brandy, “Who would you want to go up against?”
“I really can’t see myself doing that,” Brandy replied. “I’m open to it but I haven’t really thought about it. You’re like the second person to say that to me.”
“I have a suggestion, my ’90s teen girl dream would love for you to do a friendly competition with Monica,” the interviewer said. “You start with ‘The Boy Is Mine.’”
“Yea, that would be kind of weird,” Brandy said. “Who would play ‘The Boy Is Mine?’” When Monica was asked whether or not she was down for the battle, she replied, “I doubt it.”

“I guess I kind of feel like I understand the idea of it and I think it’s really really entertaining. It is an incredible idea,” Monica explained. “What I do like is it’s kind of turning into a celebration. I can handle a celebration.”
“One thing that has happened to me my whole career is that I’ve been pit against someone else that I’m not even remotely similar to,” Monica continued.
“I tell people all of the time because the only ‘Verzuz’ battle they want to see with me is me against Brandy, and the reality is that people have pit us against each other for 20 something years,” Monica said.”The reality is that I think ‘The Boy Is Mine’ is such a phenomenal record because we’re polar opposites and I think that’s dope. And she’s one of the greatest artists of our time as well.”
