Dr. Dre’s ‘The Chronic’ Is Available To Stream On 4/20
4/20 might as well be Dre Day. Since its release 28 years ago, Dr. Dre’s grounding breaking debut album The Chronic is now available to stream for the first time ever on all of the major streaming services. For the past five years, The Chronic was available for streaming only on Apple Music, according to Billboard.
The streaming platform released the album a day before “4/20,” the national holiday celebrated by cannabis enthusiasts, as Rap-Up reports.
The Chronic was released by Death Row Records in December of 1992, and the G-funk classic became one of the most influential albums of the ’90s. The Chronic featured 16 tracks with guest appearances by Snoop Dogg, Daz, and Jewell, including others.
Rolling Stone ranked The Chronic at 138 on their “500 Greatest Albums of All Time” list. The album produced Dr. Dre’s hit singles “Nuthin’ but a G Thang,” “[Expletive] Wit Dre Day (And Everybody’s Celebratin’),” and “Let Me Ride.”
The triple-platinum album was recently selected by the Library of Congress to be archived in the National Recording Registry. The Chronic was selected for its cultural, historical, and aesthetic importance to the United States’ recorded sound heritage.
