Jessica Simpson Opens Up About Past Sexual Abuse: ‘I Was Killing Myself’
In her upcoming memoir, Jessica Simpson gets candid about sexual abuse that she endured as a child and how it affected her life. Per People, Jessica reveals that she was abused by the daughter of a family friend beginning at six years old. “It would start with tickling my back and then go into things that were extremely uncomfortable,” the singer explains. “I wanted to tell my parents. I was the victim but somehow I felt in the wrong.”
Simpson explains that she finally opened up to her parents at an older age, but the damage was done. In the book, Simpson describes how she buried her anxiety and the pain and trauma she’s experienced. She also talked about how this all led to years of substance abuse. “I was killing myself with all the drinking and pills.”
Jessica shares that she did get sober in 2017, and she has been sober ever since. “Giving up the alcohol was easy. I was mad at that bottle. At how it allowed me to stay complacent and numb.”
Simpson will not only release her memoir, but she says that she will release six new songs that also tell her story. Open Book will be out February 4.
