Halsey Goes Country In ‘You Should Be Sad’ Video — WATCH
The yee-haw agenda is alive and well in Halsey’s “You Should Be Sad” video. This country-twinged kiss-off to a no-good dirty ex is a mix of Shania Twain (peep that “That Don’t Impress Me Much” cheetah print hoodie) and “Dirrty”-era Christina Aguilera, but it’s really all Halsey.
The video, directed by Colin Tilley, starts with Halsey making a visit to an underground honky-tonk where she two-steps this pathetic man right out of her hair. “I’m so glad I never ever had a baby with you,” she sings. “‘Cause you can’t love nothing unless there’s something in it for you.”
Halsey took to Twitter to talk about why she made a country song. “The most petty and heartbreaking songs all come from country,” she tweeted. “I wrote YSBS on my living room floor on my guitar. Lots of time in Nashville too.”
“You Should Be Sad” is off Halsey’s upcoming album, Manic, out January 17, which she promises will be a genre-bending release. “Every song has its own identity!” she tweeted after releasing her latest single. “I’ve always said ‘the album changes its mind as often as I do.'” Watch the NSFW video below.
Halsey will return to Saturday Night Live on January 25 with host Adam Driver.
