Beyoncé Didn’t Give Joaquin Phoenix A Standing Ovation & Twitter Can’t Stop Laughing
Beyoncé doesn’t give standing ovations, she receives them. That might be why Queen Bey was caught sitting down for Joaquin Phoenix’s win last night at the 2020 Golden Globes. When Phoenix took home Best Actor in a Drama for his movie Joker, everyone stood up in applause. Well, almost everyone.
“Joaquin Phoenix winning for Joker and receiving a standing ovation from everyone,” Buzzfeed writer Spencer Althouse tweeted. “Except Beyonce. Love.”
They weren’t the only ones who loved Beyoncé’s low key shady move that was caught on camera. “And in that moment, we were all Beyoncé,” Bustle writer Olivia Truffaut-Wong responded. Hunter Harris from Vulture also agreed with Bey’s decision to stay sitting. “Beyoncé speaks for me,” she joked.

She might have just been tired from carrying that dress around. Beyoncé kept with the big sleeves theme of the night in a gold-accented gown from Schiaparelli Haute Couture. She may have shown up fashionably late to the awards show, where she lost to Elton John for Best Song. But she had time for one quick photoshoot. Bow down to the queen.
