Damon Dash Claims Aaliyah Wanted Nothing To Do With R. Kelly
Damon Dash has joined the plethora of people who are speaking out regarding embattled singer R. Kelly’s trail of atrocities against young girls and women.
The record executive and entrepreneur who was the boyfriend of singer Aaliyah at the time of her death has recently claimed that Aaliyah wanted nothing to do with R. Kelly.
During an episode of the docuseries Surviving R. Kelly Part II: The Reckoning, Dash said that Aaliyah wanted Kelly to stay away from her following the annulment of their marriage.
“Aaliyah was like the sacrificial lamb for all that because she didn’t deserve none of that. She was a good soul, good girl,” Dash said.
“She wasn’t really even resentful. She really was like, ‘Let that man live, just keep him away from me.’ That’s all she wanted. She was just happy to be away.”
Dash then went on to say that Kelly’s marriage to Aaliyah wasn’t a secret and it was publicized.
“He married a child. That was a headline. That was a rumor,” Dash said. “That was something talked about like It was normal. She’s 13,” Dash continued before the interviewer interrupted him to state the fact that Aaliyah was actually 15 years old during her marriage to R. Kelly.
“15 is 13. I don’t care; anything under 18 is disgusting. That, to me, is a child,” Dash said after also referencing the cover-up of the “4 Page Letter” singer’s age.
Surviving R. Kelly Part II: The Reckoning airs on Lifetime Thursday (Jan. 2), at 9/8 c.
Last year, Lifetime aired Surviving R.Kelly, a documentary series that explored allegations of sexual abuse against Kelly. The “I Believe I Can Fly” singer has since been criminally charged in multiple jurisdictions on allegations that Kelly sexually abused minors.
Surviving R. Kelly Part II: The Reckoning is a five-part follow up to Surviving R. Kelly that is centered around Kelly’s legal issues and how those who accused him of sexual abuse lives have changed since they’ve come forward.
