Demi Lovato Shares An Unedited Bikini Photo With A Powerful Message
Demi Lovato sang about being confident, but she doesn’t always feel that way. She’s working on it, though. The first step is doing something that scares her and Lovato sharing an un-Photoshopped bikini photo did just that. It also sent an empowering message to her fans.
“This is my biggest fear. A photo of me in a bikini unedited,” Lovato wrote on Instagram alongside a photo of her in a cheetah-print two-piece. “And guess what, it’s CELLULIT!!!!”
Lovato admitted that she’s “sooooo tired of being ashamed of my body, editing it (yes the other bikini pics were edited – and I hate that I did that but it’s the truth) so that others think I’m THEIR idea of what beautiful is, but it’s just not me. This is what I got.”
Showing off what her mama really gave her is Lovato starting a new chapter in her life. One that allows her to be “authentic to who I am rather than trying to meet someone else’s standards.” This means she’ll no longer deprive herself from what she wants, like “real birthday cake.”
“So here’s me,” she wrote, “unashamed, unafraid and proud to own a body that has fought through so much and will continue to amaze me when I hopefully give birth one day.” Lovato admits it’s a process, though. “Just so everyone’s clear,” she added. “I’m not stoked on my appearance BUT I am appreciative of it and sometimes that’s the best I can do. I hope to inspire someone to appreciate their body today too.”
Along with this photo, Lovato, who will guest star on Will & Grace next season, revealed she’s in the studio “working on an anthem.” Let’s assume it’ll be an empowering one.
