Naomi Campbell Claims She Was Denied Entrance At French Hotel Because She’s Black
Supermodel Naomi Campbell claims that she wasn’t allowed to enter an event that was held at a hotel for this year’s Cannes Film Festival because she’s black.
The legendary model made the accusation during a recent interview with Paris Match, but she didn’t state exactly where the incident transpired.
“[The doorman] did not want to let my friend and I in because of the color of my skin,” the report, which has been translated to English.
“The guy at the entrance pretended that the place was [full to capacity]. But he let other people pass. It is [because of] these kinds of shocking moments that I will continue to express myself and make myself heard.”
Campbell continued and stated that she always wants everyone to be treated fairly, especially in an industry where racism is very prevalent.
The model spoke with Vogue UK, last year regarding a similar incident. Campbell said that a “certain country” decided not to use an ad campaign that she was featured in because of the color of her skin.
“It’s still not balanced completely,” Campbell said. “For me it was a reality check. I never believe in the hype, so it just kept things in perspective for me. Now I would like to know that models [of color] get the same opportunities and fees in advertising.”
