WATCH: Taylor Swift Drops Cameo-Filled Video for ‘You Need to Calm Down’
Taylor Swift dropped her video for her new single “You Need to Calm Down” early Monday morning.
For the second single off of her upcoming album Lover, which is due out in August, the singer tapped several of her friends in the industry. The song was made in support of the LGBTQ community and it’s reflected in the video’s themes.
Stars like Billy Porter, RuPaul, Ellen DeGeneres, the cast of Netflix’s Queer Eye and Laverne Cox all make appearances in the video, which also features a request for fans to sign a Change.org petition in support of the Equality Act. The Act, which is headed to the Senate, would “protect LGBTQ people from discrimination in their places of work, homes, schools, and other public accommodations,” Swift has said.
“Let’s show our pride by demanding that, on a national level, our laws truly treat all of our citizens equally,” Swift said via a written message at the end of the video.
But another moment that had everyone one talking was the appearance of former rival Katy Perry in the video. Dressed in a french fries costume, Swift meets up with Perry, who is wearing a cheeseburger costume.
