‘Modern Family’s’ Sarah Hyland Shows Kidney Transplant Scars on Social Media
Modern Family star Sarah Hyland continues to show her scars and inspire fans with her body positivity.
The actress, who underwent seven surgeries before the age of four, recently had another kidney surgery. After receiving an unsuccessful transplant in 2012, she revealed she would need a replacement in late 2018. Hyland suffers from kidney displasia, a condition where the organs did not develop properly in the womb, as well as endometriosis.
Her bravery and sense of humor continue to motivate and inspire her fans, who constantly praise her for not hiding what she has been through.
In a selfie Tuesday, she shared a selfie calling out her Ellen DeGeneres undies.
“Hey @theellenshow I know you’re besties with Jen [Aniston] but does she wear your underwear outside of her jeans like me? #showyourscars,” Hyland wrote.
Ellen, for her part, responded with a sense of humor as well.
“She doesn’t do that, but she’s been known to drink wine out of an Ellen mug,” DeGeneres wrote.
Hyland wrote back: “SAME! … like mother like daughter I guess.”

But the caption aside, the actress received dozens of comments of praise.
“Seeing your scar brings a smile to my face,” one user wrote. “It’s barely noticeable and to see you’re doing so well helps calm my nerves as I have surgery for kidney transplant on this coming Tuesday.”
“I Love ❤️ it show your scars,” another wrote. “I’m a Living Donor. So the scars in my body are my beauty marks ???????????????? God bless you always ????????????????????????.”
Earlier this year, Hyland told People Magazine that she always tries to keep a positive attitude about any struggle she endures.
“It really is this balance of mental, emotional and physical reality,” she said. “So if you’re feeling mentally and emotionally drained, or if you are in a very dark space, you have to pull the string on the other side to lift you up out of that.”
